Interchange is the non-negotiable fee the card-issuing bank charges on every transaction — roughly 1.5% to 2.2% plus a per-item fee depending on the card and how it is run. Nobody can discount interchange. What an agent controls is the markup on top of it. We quote interchange-plus so you can see the markup as its own line instead of one blended number that hides it.
